Create a MAS
By the end of this page you will have created a Multi-Agent System, chosen how its agents work together, and arrived in the right editor.
Prerequisites
- Starter Starter plan or above.
- Admin or Developer role.
- At least two AI Agents in the project, each Active and each with skills. See Create an AI Agent and Skills.
Member agents don’t need to be published to be added to a system — only to be deployed with it. You can build and test a system against active agents, then publish them before you ship.
The MAS Systems list
Open Agentic Workspace → MAS Systems in the project sidebar. The screen is titled Agent Systems and lists every system in the project: name, short ID, pattern, state, member count, and when it was last modified.
You can search by name or description, filter by state (Draft, Ready, Published) and by pattern, sort, and page through the results. Each card opens the editor, and carries edit and delete actions if your role allows them.
Create the system
Click New System
The form is titled Create Agent System.
Choose a pattern
Three cards sit at the top of the form, one per pattern. Pick the one that matches how your agents should work together:
| Card | What it does |
|---|---|
| Conversation Router | Routes each turn to a specialist agent based on intent classification. |
| Planner / Executor | A planner decomposes the goal into a plan; an executor runs it across member agents and synthesizes the result. |
| Agent Graph | Draw the flow yourself: connect agents, put a condition on each connection, and loop back when work needs another pass. |
Conversation Router is selected when the form opens. If you are unsure which to pick, the comparison in MAS overview walks through the choice.
The pattern is set when you create the system, and the Studio gives you no way to change it afterwards. Each pattern also stores its configuration differently, so there is nothing to carry across. If you pick wrong, create a new system and delete this one.
Fill in the details
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| System Name (required) | At least 2 characters. Lowercase with hyphens — it’s used in API calls. Spaces are converted to hyphens for you. |
| Display Name | The human-readable name shown in the UI. Defaults to the System Name. |
| Description | What this system does. Shown on the list card and searchable. |
| Tags | Type a tag and click Add. Tags are lowercased; remove one with its ×. |
Click Create System
Create System stays disabled until the name is long enough. On success you see the toast “System Created” and land in the editor for the pattern you chose.
Where you land
The pattern decides which editor opens:
| Pattern | Editor | Tour |
|---|---|---|
| Conversation Router | The router builder | Builder tour |
| Planner / Executor | The system editor | Editor tour |
| Agent Graph | The system editor, with a canvas | Canvas tour |
The system starts with no members and no version. Nothing is published yet.
Common issues
- Create System stays greyed out — The System Name is shorter than 2 characters.
- “Failed to create system” — Usually a duplicate name within the project. Try a different name.
- MAS Systems isn’t in the sidebar — The section is hidden on the Free plan, and creating or editing systems requires the Admin or Developer role.
- You picked the wrong pattern — Create a replacement and delete the original. There is no conversion.
